A Quick Guide To Rv Living

March 8th, 2010

For many people, the first thing “RV” reminds them of is the Robin Williams movie. However, RV living has become an extremely viable option for people struck with wanderlust, or stuck with jobs that need them to travel a lot.

While living in an RV, you will run into a lot of obstacles that you simply hadn’t anticipated. First and biggest of all… the septic tank. The US has a large number of designated dump stations, where you can empty the black-water and gray-water tanks. Using protective gloves, rubber boots and a sewer hose will minimize spillage and protect you from infection.

Secondly, what should you eat? Using a refrigerator in an RV can really eat up electricity bills, so try to cook only as much as you need. Also, minimize furniture and clothes – those extra pairs of shoes will clutter up the RV like anything.

Common things like ironing and line-drying are nearly impossible on an RV, so make sure your clothing is wash-and-wear friendly.

Kitchens should be kept simple. A gas burner or heating plate, a food processor, 2-3 cooking utensils and tableware should be enough. Sophisticated cooking gadgets for specialized functions are not necessary.

Toiletries also tend to accumulate like anything, especially when you develop temporary skin conditions, or pick up a shampoo only to realize that it doesn’t suit your hair very well. Keep tabs on surplus bathroom goods, and get rid of anything you haven’t used for two months.

The best way to clear out your home before moving into an RV is to have a yard sale. Get rid of antiques, curios, books you don’t read, keepsakes, old clothes… in short, discard everything that isn’t essential. What doesn’t get sold in the yard sale can get donated to Salvation Army. While you’re at it, pick up items you will need from Salvation Army, such as a mini-washing machine or a mini-dryer.

For receiving mail and/or parcels, you can book a post office box. If you’re lucky, you can even get someone who lives nearby to collect your mail, contact you and post it to where you are at the moment.

Phone calls across nations can be costly, so rely on wireless Internet as your primary method of communication. Many public places will have free WiFi, while 3G connections are also available at rather affordable rates. A good data plan can also let you dispense with a phone connection, saving even more money.

Banking is easily done through the Internet, with ATMs for cash needs.

For emergencies, pay up for Emergency Road Service. This is much cheaper than accident insurance for your home, and can really bail you out at times when you need it.

Shifting from home to motorhome is a complete change in lifestyle. Treat it as such, and you will be able to get the most out of it!

The RV lifestyle has always been tempting for people with wanderlust. If you feel your feet itching, find RV rentals that suit your budget, and ride away into freedom!

A Review of Las Vegas Casino Poker Chips

March 8th, 2010

Las Vegas casino poker chips are the best chips around, but they are not all the same. Rumor says that there is an official weight limit on chips which is not true. When shopping for chips online, you will see them offering chips that weigh as much as 12 grams, at higher prices, but the simple fact is that a the average gram weight of a casino chip is less than ten.

The variation in the chip weight depends on the material it is made from, the design that is used, and the amount of ink needed for it. No two casinos use the exact same composition for molding chips, and the are produced only by a very small number of companies, all from the United States, that are bonded. The blend used is well protected, to prevent chip forgery.

Using their own composition formula, Las Vegas casino online poker chips are injected into a mold that has a design which has been copywrited, in a manufacturing set up that is as secure as the mint. The formula uses a synthetic polymer acrylic material, with a center that is laminated. While weighing in at close to ten grams, the size is the same at all the casinos, measuring about one and a half inches in diameter, or thirty-nine millimeters.

The three manufacturers that are generally used by Las Vegas casinos are Paul-Son, Chipco, and Bud Jones. They all use different manufacturing processes. The technique used by Paul-son is a compression mold system, using extreme pressure to fuse the colors into a solid piece. with uneven stripes of color on the very edge of each chip (if you play poker in Vegas, you have, no doubt, seen players trying to stack their chips by evening out the stripes on the edges of each chip!).

Injection molding is used by Bud Jones. The patterns, pre-formed letter, and denominations are joined and solidified by injecting plastic material around them. They also sometimes use metal inlay chips.

Chipco is the newest of the three main manufacturers. They use ceramic material that is injection molded in one piece. You can recognize these chips by their full-color graphics, and designs on the rim. They are the only one of the three that prints numbers and letters on the actual rim of the chip.

Recently, the casinos started issuing commemorative chips for certain events. The MGM Grand put out a chip for the George Foreman fight, the Tropicana issued one for the Kentucky Derby, and Caesars Palace celebrated George Burns hundredth birthday with one. These chips have the same value, and play as any other Las Vegas online casino poker chips at the tables, but most people that get hold of them take them home as collector’s items. If you see one, and you want it, grab it fast!

Since poker became the “big game” in Las Vegas, many people are buying chips for home play. An interesting way to do it is to literally buy them from the casino blog and take them home with you. Use them for your home games, and if you ever stop playing, or need the money, cash them back in at the casino you got them from for full value. Don’t worry about the changes a casino may make, or even the possibility of a casino being sold or closed down. This would only make your Las Vegas casino poker chips even more valuable!

Skiing – Some of the World’s Best Ski Spots

March 8th, 2010

Many of us have had holidays spent breathing recycled air in “luxury” coaches, watching bad television in hotel rooms, eating beyond our capacity simply because meals were included in the “package” and there was little else to do. Yawn! But not if there’s snow on the ground; don the long johns and get at it .

1. Austria: skiing for amateurs – So maybe you’re not the athletic type. You don’t have to be to take advantage of the world’s best sporting havens, particularly if you take a few professional lessons. St. Anton, in the Arlberg region of Austria, is the best place to go for ski instruction-the Arlberg School ski technique originated here and the area’s 300+ instructors are all well-versed in the method. In the hands of these pros, you’ll look like an expert after a few days on the slopes.

2. Chile’s best skiing for mamas’ boys (sorry.we mean “cautious athletic types”) – If you’ve got nothing to prove and just want some sane, safe skiing, La Parva, located just minutes from Santiago, allows you to ski heli ski from your lodge to the lifts. If you’re afraid of getting hurled into a tree, there’s no need to worry here: the mountains are treeless. The slopes also have wind-curled cornices, so snowboarders can afford to try out a few new stunts. This is also a perfect spot to try heli-skiing in a friendly, nurturing environment.

3. Ski Whistler Blackcomb before the next Olympians do! When it comes to skiing and riding, Whistler Blackcomb with its 8,000 plus acres of terrain on both mountains, has variety and then some. Choose from steeps, deeps, chutes, high alpine bowls, glades, superb corduroy, long cruisers and gentle rollers. Riders and skiers will revel in the Parks and Pipes on both mountains plus natural launch pads, hits, wind-lips, cornices, cliff drops and ridges – the place is like a huge, natural terrain park! And the night-life is great too! This is the site of the next Winter Olympics.

4. World-class cat skiing for coupon clippers…in the Italian Alps – Sure, you’d love to go on a ritzy ski holiday but you’re – well, how can we put this? …broke. No worries. We appreciate a good bargain ourselves and have found that the deals in life are often a mere stone’s throw away from the pricey stuff. Such is the case in the Italian Alps: Mount Livata and Pescasseroli are located very near Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy’s most popular resort, but offer affordable accommodation and similar access to facilities. Same goes for Val d’Ayas, which is located near pricey Courmayeur and Cervinia and offers lower lift prices, more challenging runs and fewer crowds.

5. And if that’s not cheap enough, there’s skiing in Spain – You can ski in Spain on a busker’s budget. While there is a certain aura about the Alps resorts in France, Austria, Italy and Switzerland, the Spanish Pyrenees area keeps up with the best of them (and certainly surpasses them with respect to value.) Baquiera-Beret, in Lerida, boasts a lengthy ski season (November through April), numerous slopes of varying difficulty, plenty of chair lifts, professional ski instruction and – this is the best part – far fewer crowds than the pricier resorts. A good place to stay is Hotel Montarto which offers spectacular views and easy access to lifts.

6. If you think you’re a good skiier, try heli-skiing in the Purcells in British Columbia – Rk Heliski in Golden, welcomes you to 1,500 square kilometres/ 930 sq. miles of incredible terrain in the spectacular Purcell Mountains, on the edge of the legendary Bugaboos. Snowcat skiing/boarding tours are led by some of the world’s best mountain guides to access wide open alpine slopes, scenic glaciers and gladed forests dusted with annual snowfalls of up to 1,100 cm/36 feet. Some of this is extreme skiing, definitely not for the novice, but hey, who wants to live forever?

7. Austria’s least-known sport that’ll make you feel like a kid again – Austria’s Lake District boasts excellent ice-skating and skiing during the winter as well as water sports during the summer. The area around Wolfgangsee offers a little-known sport that’ll take you right back to your childhood. Mountain tobogganing involves carting a metal saucer-of-a-thing up a hillside (we recommend the chair lift as opposed to a hike) and descending on a metal track to the bottom. It’ll be the most invigorating five minutes of your life. Next step? Do it again!

8. And after lots of lessons and a stiff drink… Canadian daredevil’s dream – Canada’s ski-jump champs practice in Thunder Bay, Ontario, regarded as the world’s biggest jump. You’ve seen the Bond films – now it’s your turn. Mind you, there are also cross-country trails for beginners if you need to get up your confidence. The area includes four major Alpine areas. Daily flight service can be arranged from Toronto, Winnipeg and Minneapolis. This place can be crowded during peak season–who knew there were so many daredevils around?

Free Sports Picks

March 7th, 2010

Many handicapping sites offer free sports picks or newsletter service options to their visitors who show interest in their services but don’t want to commit to the handicapper on the first meet. Professional handicapping services are plainly overflowing with useful betting knowledge which could be given away to people for free.

This is a very positive aspect of handicapping services as free knowledge shows that the handicapper has adequate knowledge regarding the business and also, their business’s USP lies much more beneath the knowledge. This in-depth knowledge and statistics could not be availed from anywhere except professional handicappers. Also, there are many self proclaimed ‘gurus’ and ‘masters’ in the betting business who are really scammers. This is why a visitor should always check a handicapper’s track record and market reputation before selecting them.

Another thing which a bettor can do is to check whether the handicapper’s sports picks have been listed by professional sports monitoring services. This is a great indication of how various handicappers feel regarding their own free sports picks. If a visitor has any difficulty in checking them, then the handicapper might not be worth the risk. The customer is paying for valuable betting information and he/she should make sure that their money is well spent.

Also, a customer should also avoid any website or handicappers who are offering ridiculous claims for getting successful and even display incorrect examples and records. It can be easily judged by the percentage they are advertising. Handicappers with success rate around 55 to 60 percent are reasonable, particularly when they are advertising for NFL and other football games.

If a website or handicapper says that they get amid seventy to eighty percent of correct Sports picks, then they should be susceptible as even the best analysts who have earlier played the game and have links with the best coaches and players could not promise such large a percentage. What has been outlined in the above mentioned lines is just a glimpse as to what can (and goes) behind the scenes in the sports betting and handicapping services. The elements of trust aren’t held by all the handicappers, so a customer has to always be aware regarding what the services are offering and what could he/she get.

Many professional sports handicapping websites offer free sports picks daily. A visitor should always check whether these sports picks are premium play or second rate predictions. Premium play requires hours of hard work analyzing statistics and market trend whereas second rate predictions could be made by any bettor. Also, the time on which the website offers its picks is very valuable as anyone can offer picks at the end of the game, but getting picks at the start of the game or with few minutes down is reasonable.

Sports Handicappers – Tips to Finding Yours

One of the easiest methods of locating the best sports handicappers is the internet. Many of the best advertise themselves and explain what they can do for you. What you want to do is compare each handicapping site to find if their expertise is in the area you are most interested in. If you are interested in baseball, discard all that focus primarily on football.

While some handicappers claim to be successful in all areas of sports wagering, when you first begin stick with those who specialize in your area of interest. Sports handicappers advertise more information on what they do well and less about the ones their system does not work well with.

Once you have chosen several of the handicappers you want to evaluate, write down their picks and/or suggestions and compare them to the actual outcome of the games. Don’t lay any money on these bets yet. Wait a few games. If the outcomes fall in the range you are comfortable with, go with them. If not, keep looking.

If you like to bet various types of sports, you might want to find a different system for each sport. Take advantage of different system sports knowledge. Each handicapping system prides itself in t its area of expertise. Don’t use basketball handicappers for soccer wagers. You don’t want your banker doing your heart surgery.

The only good handicapping service is the one that makes you money. Promises of winning and making money won’t buy you a new car. If you are not making money, find a new handicapper.

Driving And Renting A Car In Costa Rica

March 7th, 2010

Driving in Costa Rica is not for everyone. So make sure you know what you’re getting into before getting behind the wheel of a car in Costa Rica. The following are the 7 most frequently asked questions about driving in Costa Rica. These questions come in from my popular podcast about Costa Rica from folks from the U.S., Canada, and Europe.

1. What type of cars are available for rent?

Renting a car in Costa Rica is more expensive than in the U.S. so most people rent the smaller more compact cars that are a little cheaper.

Prices vary and during the high season you will pay more. Around $20 or more per day. Renting during Christmas/New Years will add another $50 or more per week. I looked at five car rental company cars in Costa Rica and the average for renting a small car like a Toyota Yaris will cost around $205 per week. Please note this doesn’t include the required by law insurance which will add at least $10-20 per day. So you’re looking at $250-300 to rent a small car per week.

You will find all the major car rental Costa Rica agencies such as Hertz, Avis, Dollar, Budget, and others.

2. Is driving a good idea?

It depends. Driving in Costa Rica compared to other countries can be a very scary proposition for most. Costa Rica has one of the highest vehicle accident rates in the world. Traffic laws and speed limits are often ignored. Crazy and illegal turns across lanes of traffic are common. Turn signals are rarely used and dangerous passing is common. So you might driving on your lane when all of a sudden here comes a car in your lane going the wrong way because they’re passing on a blind spot. The roads are in poor condition, and large potholes which could cause serious damage to your car is common.

Although the road conditions in the beach areas are worse the actual driving isn’t as scary since there is less traffic and since the roads aren’t the best people tend to drive a little slower.

I like to have my own transportation so renting a car is something I like to do but it all depends on your comfort level. I’ve had friends and family who had never driven outside of the U.S. they found driving to be scary but a fun adventure. So just take it easy and slow and you will be fine. Don’t worry about the other drivers, just do your thing.

3. Do I need car rental insurance?

By law you will need the INS (Instituto Nacional de Seguros) liability insurance regardless of your own car insurance coverage or credit card coverage. The insurance required by law is known as TPL, SLI, SLC or API. The cost ranges from $10-20 USD per day depending on the vehicle. This insurance only covers damages to other people, cars, or property. You will need to buy supplemental coverage to cover damages to the rental car or yourself. However your own car insurance policy or credit card might cover that so call your insurance agent at home before leaving for Costa Rica and ask him or her if your insurance policy covers you for damages in Costa Rica. You might also want to call your credit card issuer and ask them the same question. If your own policy covers you in Costa Rica you’re set and you don’t need the supplemental coverage. If they do not cover you, then I suggest taking out a supplemental policy offered by Costa Rica car rental agencies.

Optional-CDW or LDW – collision damage waiver which covers the cost of the car’s deductible amount which varies depending on the type of car and agency. The cost will range between $10-20 USD per day.

Optional-Zero Liability – This will reduce your liability to zero against theft and vandalism, for example, the cost for this insurance is between $5-20 USD per day depending on the agency and car.

As you can see the supplemental insurance cost can add up fast so it’s important that you check with your insurance agent and your credit card company since you might not even need the optional/supplemental coverage.

If your insurance agent gives you the thumbs up do me a favor and get it in writing! You don’t want any surprises.

4. What are car rental requirements in Costa Rica?

Requirements may vary depending on the car agency you use so check with them. Most require a valid driver’s license (one from your home state or country is fine), a valid passport with your entry stamp, the Costa Rica mandated liability insurance, and you must be at least 21 years of age.

5. Is it safe to drive at night?

The problem driving at night is not crime, it’s just the unsafe driving and poor road conditions which are compounded even worse when you have poor visibility. The roads are not lit up well and it gets pitch dark after 6:00 PM making it unsafe to drive for an inexperienced driver.

6. What are road conditions like?

The road conditions are very poor compared to the super highways of the United States or the Autobahn in Germany. Drivers have to contend with unsafe driving habits of motorists, huge potholes, and even the highway is a two-lane road. The roads get worse during the rainy season since road washouts from the mudslides from the mountains are common.

7. What side of the road do they drive on in Costa Rica?

On the right hand side, like in the U.S. and Canada.

One final tip

Make a copy of the profile page of your passport and your entry stamp and carry that with you along with your car rental papers. You might get stopped by police and you will need to show this to them. Do no carry your passport with you just make copies. The Costa Rican government now allows you to carry copies instead of your actual passport.

Remortgages and Secured Loans are Good Debt Consolidation Loans

March 7th, 2010

Facing debt is a challenge that most people can relate to. The economy in the United Kingdom and around the world has been turned on its proverbial ear and there?s no question that from some of the highest paid individuals to those who are struggling near the bottom of the financial totem pole, people everywhere are feeling the pinch of debt. What does it mean? Are there some options that you can take advantage of that help to ease the financial burden that may seem to be overwhelming you?

The simple answer is that it means you have to look at the alternatives that currently exist and be diligent and persistent about making matters better for yourself and your loved ones by bringing your debt down to where it?s manageable for you. Of course, this is easier said than done because the reality that is folded in with increasing debt is the continuing escalation of the cost of living for necessities such as groceries and gas.

While some people are in the fortunate position to be searching for ways to make their budgets completely recession proof, the vast majority of people are simply trying to find ways to make ends meet and reduce their debt. This is particularly true for homeowners. The real estate industry has taken serious blows over the years with many homes going into foreclosure because families simply cannot afford to pay their mortgage. Since banks really don?t want homes back, one of the ways that families are staying afloat is by remortgages which allows a current mortgage to be refinanced at a lower interest rate over a period that makes the payments affordable and keeps the family from going into foreclosure.

There is no question that the recession has forced many people to rethink their budgeting strategies and to go back to the drawing board. Some people are choosing secured loans as a way to consolidate all of the existing high ticket bills such as credit cards, mortgage, car loans, medical expenses and similar. This way, there is just one bill to pay and there is no threat of repossession of these valuables or collection action being taken.

When you are feeling as though debt is drowning you and you can?t see a way clear, you want debt relief in a hurry. A good rule of thumb is to never wait until you cannot control your debt because it may be too late when that happens. Instead, if you suspect you are going to be late or can?t make a payment, you should be looking at some of the debt consolidation loans that are currently available.

Although borrowing money is not a solution to money problems, it can provide you with the peace of mind in knowing that you have one loan payment to repay versus several bills. Likewise, you can take comfort in knowing that you have the option to pay the loan back and keep your credit score from being damaged by negative reports that come from not paying your bills on time.
